What are these roots?
« on: November 09, 2020, 16:07 »
Please could anyone help me identify these roots.  I found them everywhere when I was digging over my new allotment for the first time.  I am guessing couch grass, which I don't think is good?

Is there an easy way to get rid of this?

Many thanks!

I had some roots like these, mine were Bindweed. But I'm a newbie only started last year.

I agree, couch grass roots are usually a bit straighter and whiter.

Yes, looks like bindweed to me as well, need to get as much out as possible. Every little bit that gets left in the soil will regrow *sob* What regrows in spring I spray with glyphosate or it becomes a real pest amongst the growing veg. I'm gradually getting the better of it, after 3 years on this plot....

I agree with the others - at this time of year it's most likely to be bindweed.

In the spring, ground elder looks very similar too.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
