Bordeaux mix
« on: September 01, 2011, 15:16 »
I sprayed my toms (outdoor cherry & plum) before we went away 2 weeks ago. Some of the fruit is now ready to pick & eat but is splattered with the mix, goes a lovely blue colour when washed off. There is no info on the pack about intervals between spraying and eating, other than to spray at 3 week intervals, does anyone know when/if they are safe to eat?

I don't use Bordeaux mixture as I don't like it and I believe it's oging off the market soon anyway.

This is what the RHS have to say about fungicides (bottom of second page):

http://www.rhs.org.uk/media/pdfs/advice/fungicides

Make sure you wash the fruit well before eating !

Thanks Aunt Sal, I wouldn't normally use it, but had to go away and the weather forecast didn't look good wrt to blight. Dithane is no longer available, so if Bordeaux mix goes there won't be much left, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your point of view.

Not quite the end.

This is Dithane's replacement:

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Snap DD
this is Bayer's replacement for Dithane
http://www.bayergarden.co.uk/en/data/Products/f/Fruit-and-Vegetable-Disease-Control.aspx
it uses copper oxychloride, Bordeaux mix is copper sulphate.
The RHS doesn't seem to think it's as nasty as copper sulphate as they post no warnings
