Derris and Daikon
« on: May 10, 2006, 16:42 »
Well I figured out what's eating my daikon today. Tiny little black flea beetles! I've read that derris is good for bad infestations (also read that the little blighters like Chinese Daikon radishes especially   ) but I'm still a little unsure of the safety of derris. It's made from plants but what else is in it? Why is it not soluble? Does it accumulate in the soil then?  :?

I've already read other tips on avoiding flea beetle, like keeping seedlings moist all the time and planting later in the season. I guess I should use some of my approx. 1000 daikon seeds to sow some more elsewhere... probably near the garlic/shallots on the other end of the plot and hope they deter the evil black bugs.
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.

I think derris is "approved" organically but have a look on the HDRA website to be sure
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
