Peanuts
« on: December 04, 2010, 16:31 »
Is it okay to feed them peanuts? I was intending to crush them small so there's no chance of them choking. I just thought it would be a nice high protein treat for them with their warm mash in the morning (80% layers, 20% mix of porridge oats and corn).

Much to high in fat in my opinion.

I think Aunt Sally is probably right but if you want to give them peanuts a small amount every so often won't really hurt, it's unlikely you'll have obese hens on a small handful now and then especially during these very cold winter months.

Thanks. They were only going to get a handful as an additional treat during the cold weather,. They don't get a hot mash when it's warmer!
It's really funny, they only have to see me coming with the mixing bowl and it's bedlam. One of my speckledys' is actually standing in the bowl when I'm trying to dish up.
