One of my Black Rocks has become broody.  This is the second time it has happend.  She's about 18 months old and is a good layer. 
Last time I just chucked her out of the nest every time I saw her in the nest.  After 3 days she gave up and carried on laying and not being broody.
She started being broody again yesterday and is most indignant when I take her out of the nest several times a day.
I noticed last time, and this time, the other hens are very aggressive towards her when she is like this, otherwise they all get on famously.
Is there another way of stopping them going broody without having to chuck her out of the nest several times a day?  When I go to pick her up she warns me with sounds like an angry cat!!!!

Some people have popped them into a dog cage with food and water for a few days in the main run! my blackrock is broody at the moment but i gave her some eggs to hatch!
she warns me off even when i get her out to eat and poop!

You cant stop them going broody but there are several ways to deal with it.
1) let them have fertile eggs,
2) keep removing the eggs so she is sitting on nothing - can take weeks,
3) keep removing her from the nest box - again can take weeks,
4) put her in a cage with food and water - can take between 1 and 7 days,
5) dunk her bum in a bucket of cold water - this lowers her body temperature - not tried this method but she may need several dunkings (just make sure she dries off though).
So far I have tried methods 1 and 4 - much prefer method 1 though

I keep doing No.4 to my black rock at the moment.  It worked after 4 days, then 2 weeks later she was back on the nest box!!!

Good idea, except I don't have a cockerel, so I've got no fertile eggs!!  Where would I get fertile eggs?  I live on the planet of Lincolnshire, not far from Horncastle.

if you don't mind travelling down to near boston I can put you in touch with a very nice man who breeds all sorts of birds and he always has fertile eggs  I had copper black marans off him (eggs) plus several pol hens (including a black rock)

If the small ark was spare Joy, I would put her in their on some eggs, mind you, now that Becksy and the girls have gone, I haven't got any fertile eggs at the moment.

What chooks does that man at Kirton keep then?  Has he got Welsummers?

Oooh   Ooooh Joy, Brian said I can go with you!!!! lol  It's only because he is interested in the Welsummers!!! lol 

Only put them in a bag Colliebird if you like scrambled eggs!!  If you are collecting them yourself, he may put them into egg boxes, but when they post eggs out they go into polystyrene boxes for safety!

Joy, make it after 9.30am as by the time I get back from my little cleaning job, see to the chooks and have breakfast, it's usually about 9ish!
