When I first had the chooks I just couldn't eat any chicken, I went right off it for months. Now I only eat small amounts of only free range. If I have any other meat (rarely) that has to be the same. Waitrose are very good for their welfare standards in food. I'm sure they are 1st on the compassionate shopper list (compassion in farming).

I'd give you the phone number of our supplier Michelle, but he's rushed off his feet at the moment!  Having to supply up to 60,000 day olds a week soon, up from 12,000 a couple of months back!  But if you want to give him a ring anytime, PM me and I'll give you his number!

He does sometimes have left over chicks, but he always has hatching eggs, so that's the way we are going now, we'll just go up and get eggs from him and hatch ourselves.

I have some young cockerels running at the moment, most are destined for the pot, but they are healthy having a wonderful time, so much better that the sad specimens you see in supermarkets. :(

i'm veggie anyway, but adam can't eat chicken anymore - started off that he wouldn't buy any, but would eat it if served. (doesn't like to make a fuss) but now everyone knows he doesn't eat it, he won't touch it.  ::)

My 7 year old daughter got very upset  :( when i dispatched my first cockerel then 3 seconds later  :) that means chicken dinner she said. Now no cockerels left she wants to hatch more eggs just for cockerel dinners.

Can't fault her and at least she knows where meat comes from and that it's not always wrapped in plastic  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.
