The missus has been talking to local breeders, and has reserved some chicks, to be collected when theyre older,

it seems the old gent at the farm was a bit unclear over the phone. She thinks he said they are 'isla marans', is this right? can anyone tell me what the proper spelling would be, or what the right name is if shes got it a bit wrong?

We have 3 ISA browns, given by a lovely lady from freecycle who's moving. I thought they'd be quite dull being bred for commercial purposes but they're lovely and friendly. More importantly they've laid an egg a day each - apart from the day after we got them, they only laid 2 between them. We were told to expect them to stop laying for a bit with the stress of the move, etc, so well chuffed so far.

I have a feeling ours have had their beaks clipped, but the fact they've had their jabs, etc, is a real plus.

When do you collect them?  :D

thanks for the advice

we would collect them first week in feburary, from the farm in Burn. I guess theyre only just being hatched now.

weve been told of another farm that does lots of different breeds, but thats in Catterick. Its a fair way but it would be a nice run out and we could come back the dales route

i was hoping to have them in the next couple of weeks, but its taken nearly a year to get this far so a bit more delay doesnt matter
