Chicken Feeding
« on: April 28, 2009, 09:52 »
We have a chicken which kind of found its way to us! Basically it was wondering up our street and i had no look it tracking its owner so decided to keep her as she's a very friendly girl :) but the problem i have is she is'nt going to the food and water because of the other girls and stays in the house just looking out the door! (they are still sorting the pecking order which i hear can take a few weeks anyway) but i have been making sure she gets food and water myself but at the weekend we are away and my mums coming to feed and let them out etc and i'm just worried the whole time she'll be in the house and starve herself :(. I have'nt been and given her any water or food this morn hoping she'll come out herself a get some at some point.
What do you think? as i'm worried to leave her

Kelly.

Leave some food and water in the hen house for her over the week end.

I'll have to ask won't i?  :)

Should i just leave her to it today to see if she will come out or do think its best if i give her the water and food? I don't think shes scared of the others just likes to keep clear as at bedtime she goes up on her own fine. Just sharing food issues ::)

It's quite normal.  Make sure you have a number of feed and water stations so that if she gets chased away from one she can go to another.

Thanks for that i don't feel so worried now. Makes me feel sorry for her when shes getting it from all directions from the others, i know it has to happen so they can all get along in the end.

Are there any chicken friendly lawn feeding/weed & moss killing treatments?
