Sheds- Metal Vs Wood, any thoughts appreciated.
« on: March 07, 2012, 10:56 »
That pretty much sums it up really I guess.
I need to purchase one for allotment but wondered whether a metal one would get far too hot in the summer or would that be worth it as it would offer better security than it's opposition.
Many Thanks in advance.

I don't really have any preference myself, there are some at our site but they are old anderson shelters - which are well rusted now! In fact, we are only allowed new sheds that are wooden - it might be worth checking your rules if you have not already?
Acquired a third of a plot in January 2011 which was extended to three quarters in December 2011. Managed by myself and my 6 year old son.

Respace, welcome to the message board  :D

+1 for wooden one. It's a classic. Plus metal ones looks so ugly, when rusted.

Security? If you do have such a problem, only a reinforced concrete bomb shelter will solve the problem

Wooden are generally less secure and can be the target of arson, but the metal ones once attacked will remain insecure - I've seen the doors or roofs bent out of shape, and it's impossible to get them back into shape.

Some people report condensation issues with metal sheds.  However, I don't think the ones in the UK rust as they tend not to be made out of rustable material.

There really isn't a definite answer.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

And there's always the possible problem that in a strong wind, a metal shed can turn into a kite as many have found to their regret.

Wood it shall be then, I'm not that keen on the metal ones but hubby was worming out of making my shed so suggested looking at the metal ones as he thought some of the wooden ones were looking a bit flimsy.
I will look forward to telling him that project is back on when he gets home!
Many thanks for the input fellow plotters, have a fab day  :D

Another option is light timber frame and corrugated steel, which usually used for roofing, for cladding.
