Strawberys flowering again!
« on: September 07, 2012, 11:36 »
Hi all,

Had a look around last night in the garden and to my surprise a few of the strawberry plants have begun to flower again, there are around 15 to 20 flowers comming on 7 or 8 plants.
Should i pull the flowers off or bring them inside (they're in pots) to try and get a few to produce and ripen?
Or will this effect tnext years crop too much?

Thanks

I'd get some strawbery's while you can.
We got very few at the start of the summer because of the weather but they have been making up for it over the last couple of weeks and still have a lot more to come.

Mine are perpetuals so flower from May to October but I haven't had much fruit this Summer and despite feeding, the plants were small and wizened. Any fruit had grey mould. I think the troughs just got too waterlogged.
This last week or so they've really come on and there are loads of flowers. I remember I was picking in November last year so there's still time!
What a difference the sun makes!

I noticed some of mine have started again. If yours are first year plants you will get loads more next year anyway so I would not worry too much about an extra one or two now.
