Seems a bit steep to me tbh Dan.

The kit for the water butt is a soaker hose type so may exhaust the water butt supply quite quickly unless you turn it off/on or buy a timer. You are paying primarily for the water butt connector, which can probably be sourced much cheaper elsewhere and used with a micro-irrigation kit like this (good as a starter kit):-
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blackspur-23M-Micro-Watering-System/dp/B000R8VAUY/ref=sr_1_5?s=outdoors&ie=UTF8&qid=1363212069&sr=1-5.

There are all sorts of adjustable drippers and irrigation pipes available on ebay or the squintynet so you can make one tailored to your garden/plot.

I know when we had the drought last year we were allowed to use drippers for irrigation but if you want to use it for mains water it might be worth checking whether that hose qualifies.

hi sorry i put the wrong link on it was this.

http://www.greenhousesensation.co.uk/plant-watering-systems/click-drip-for-water-butt.html

it comes with the solar/battery timer too. i think i might look around to try and make my own set up. thought this would be a good starting kit.

I think it's an excellent idea Dan, especially if it gives you the confidence to expand it to other areas.
I bought an off the shelf kit a few years ago and once I realised how basic they were there was no stopping me.  :)

Make your own from an electrical timer and a solenoid operated water valve.  Easy Peasy.

Cheers,   Tony.
