just a quick question,

does anyone know where i will get some leek plug plants that are not a stupid price?

i realy want some leeks but as ive only just got my lottie never sowed any :(

My local nursery does them in pots... about 20 per pot.  Have you got a local nursery (not a chain garden centre)?

i thought i was to late!

mine never grew last year so will try again

do i just sow them in a line and then when they are big enough dig them and re-plant at the right spacings?

Yep, you can do that in a fine nursery bed or quasi cold frame or a tray.

this may be a silly question but how long does it normaly take for them to get to the right size for thinning?


i was just wondering if i could sow them in the spacings of another crop so they didnt get dammaged or stood on while im still sorting he plot

Someone on here sows them in cat litter trays...  you could do that then transplant when ready. That way you'll be SURE they wont get walked on.

I plant my leeks seeds between two rows of dwarf beans. That way I know where they are and don't trample on them. It also uses up a little bit of space you cant use for anything else.

They should grow OK in the big outdoors, but as you don't know your new plot - unless sowing in your home garden - it's a good idea to put some compost in for them.
