Title: Weeds - Never ending weeds
Post by: andyww2013 on August 08, 2019, 18:49
Hi,

So, I like to keep a tidy allotment. But working full time the weeds have become a continual task to keep on top of.

Next season I'm thinking of using some ground cover fabric and then cutting holes into for the plants to grow through, particularly for the stuff I grow under cover.

Is this approach workable?

Yes, it works - it's what I do now I'm not as young, or as fit, as I was ;)
Don't use the cheap spun-bond fleece stuff as it deteriorates very quickly. Buy woven stuff with guide lines woven in eg Yuzet (several other brands available, but that's the one I buy) They're all available in different widths, so it's usually easy to find something to cover bed sizes and there are often offers on ebay. Where it needs to be cut use heat to seal the edges, or it frays like mad - I use a soldering iron bought cheaply just for this.
Oh and don't forget the pins to fix it down or it just blows away. Good luck :)
