Storing parsnips
« on: January 27, 2025, 09:22 »
The parsnips are going to have to come up and go into store, if we are to get any.  The rodents have found them and are enjoying a good munch, which then brings the slugs in.  Sigh.
In past years we have made a storage crate of one of the large recycling boxes, layering them in with dry peat (let's not go there) or spent growbags (haven't got any this year).  They keep very well.
I'm thinking what I use for the layering needs to be nutrient poor, dry or capable of being dried out easily, not too heavy ..... Bark chippings?  Builders sand?? I'm a bit blank. What do other people use?
All we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about (Charles Kingsley)
