potatoes have rotted
« on: May 15, 2012, 21:09 »
My spuds have rotted with all this wet weather. :(... Not even started growing and already had a disaster immediately.

Should I remove them all or just let them rot down.

One our neighbours said to plant our peas and beans on  top as the roots dont go down far?, and try again in another bed.

Otherwise this is a wasted bed.  I am in Manchester.   This particular bed is always going to be prone to waterlogging when it rains.  So should we just avoid planting anything until  later in the season.  The waterlogging is deeper down not on the surface.

Thanks
Amanda

Are you absolutely sure they've rotted off, as opposed to just being slow?  When did you plant them, and how deep?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

9th April, dug three up as noticed me and neighbour planted at same time and theirs were coming through.  Decided to bite the bullet and test ours,  dug up 3 of them and they were stinking and mushy.  And no signs still of the others pulling through. 6 inches deep.
