This is all well and good in theory, but someone posted a few days ago a piccie of leggy plants about 2' tall. Assuming the  plant was already 6" deep in a pot, you'd need a container 2' deep to bury it with just 6" showing"

Far easier to either us the top shoot as a cutting, or start again.

Oh thank you, it did seem a shame to murder them, I gave them a day out the other day and regreted it as they wilted, they did recover though, love them they have been through so much in my house now I'm going to chop their heads off
