Is it too late? Tomatoes
« on: April 16, 2014, 20:19 »
I have just found my packet of black cherry tomatoes  >:(

Actually I was just potting up my others and realised there were some missing! I always intended them to be later than sungold, but not that late.

Is it still worth my while sowing a few or too late to catch up.

Thanks
Elaine

This time last year I was staring at trays of non-germinated tomato seeds and I had the best outdoor tomato harvest ... luckily for the lovely summer.  This year they'll be in the greenhouse/polytunnel so I think it will be fine to sow now.

Only put mine in at the weekend - there's at least 2-3 weeks left for sowing tomato seeds.

Hi all,

I think I am probably to late and would probably be better going to buy some plants but just wondered what everyone thought?

Many thanks

You would probably be ok. Try and get them started asap though. Like most things sown a little late they tend to catch up. I sowed mine a couple of weeks ago in an airing cupboard and they germinated in 3-4 days. They are destined for outdoors so won't be going out till June anyway so still a good 6 weeks of growing time.

Might as well try (will be cheaper) and if they don't work you can still buy plug plants.
