Cape gooseberries! Another...
« on: January 24, 2010, 21:20 »
Hello everyone,

I have just looked at growing some physalis after tasting them from morrisons. I have read all the previous posts on here and on the net. However, I haven't managed to find any info on spacings. How far apart have people planted them in their Greenhouse borders?

Any info greatly appreciated as always.

When I grew them a few years back, in our greenhouse I only out them about 12 - 15 ins apart and they were just fine  :)

Mine turned into a sprawling mass, snapping off several branches when the fruit set.  Bad management on my part, in the end I found a fan trellis provided the best support.

I've got an overwintered physalis edulis, the packets states "allow plenty of room"  really helpful that. Which variety are you planning on growing?

thanks for that,

How many plants do you reckon you need in order to get a 'useful crop'?

Hiya Lardman,
