Help - hatching broody
« on: May 29, 2010, 15:53 »
Hi,

We have had two of our eight eggs hatch this morning, just went to check on mummy and two of the unhatched eggs (i think)have rolled out from under.

Should i pop them under her?

Liv.

no leave her and the eggs alone she may have kicked them out as they are dead in their shells or if they are starting to hatch they do roll about anyway  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

thanks again joyful, glad your on line.

Was going to post on my last post to let you know that two had hatched, you gave me some advice the other day.

So if the stray eggs are still viable, do they not need heat?

don't worry mum will sort them out, whilst they are hatching I leave well alone and when she thinks no more will hatch (this could be in a day or so) she will bring all the hatched ones out for some chick crumb and water. Whilst mine are eating then I clean out the bedding and any unhatched ones (I usually open the shells to see if they was a reason why they never hatched but this isn't for the feint hearted  :(). This year I had 2 eggs that I knew were a couple of days late going under the broody (it was a risk doing this and it nearly didn't work), she got off leaving these as the other chicks had to have food and water (they hatched a day early) so I grabbed them quickly whilst still warm and drove to Grannie Annies as I knew she had her incubator on and her and Brian popped them in just to see. Two days later I had a healthy pair of chicks sat in their incubator  :D
