I think you'll find we all have our favourite breeds/hybrids on here.....
I have black rocks as I was told they are fairly hardy, disease resistant, egg machines and friendly! They are all of these things, especially friendly.

I would decide what you want and match your wants to which breed/hybrid can forfill.  If I had to choose again I may get something different but would always have a black rock in the flock, I just love their friendliness.

Thanks for your advice :)
Whatever I get, they must be child friendly,& not too hard to tame. They must be able to stick up for themselves against cats.We have 2 cats, one 2yr old who has no brains & is scared of everything,so he won't be a problem,& one 13yr old who is very territorial. She likes hunting & often brings things home as gifts for me- yuk!
She hated it when we got our younger cat as a kitten, she still beats him up if he gets too close to her!I wonder what she will think of the chooks.I'll have to keep an eye on her.I don't really want hens that can get over a 6ft fence either.

LOL, welcome chookaholic!!!  Yes, I'm just up the A17!  We love our Amberlinks and our Babcock's, you'll have to pop and see them sometime!!!  All the Babcock's are already reserved now and 40 of them gone to new homes even though they are still only 13 weeks old!

Everyone wants chickens now!  Even 40 of the 3 week Amberlinks are already reserved would you believe!!!

I like Light Sussex too and Buff Orpingtons, and I'd like to try some black rocks as they are supposed to be quite a hardy hybrid.

Look forward to more chats soon.
