Tommy Toe tomatoes
« on: August 09, 2009, 08:14 »
Bought some Tommy Toe seeds from Tuckers this year, because they were supposed to have won a competion for their flavour: germinated and grown well, but theyve got about as much taste as the supermarket jobs. Have 2 indoors and 8 outside, all very bland.  :(

Anyone else tried them?

The cherry tomatoes are very sweet, but havent got the TANG that I was looking for.

I've been trying for years to find the 'perfect' for me tasting toms :(
The trouble with recommended toms is that not only are everyones taste buds different but the local soil affects the flavour too................so we'll just have to keep trying :)

I've been searching for "that tang" too but still haven't found it yet. I've lost count of the variety I've tried, each year I try a few different ones just incase. I think you can forget most of the new designer toms as Mumofstig says they've been engineered to be sweet, they're very nice but dont have the proper taste.

Its very difficult to tell what they're going to taste like when everything is described the same. "old fashion taste" - "excellent flavour" all better than the supermarket but still not right.

The trouble is, most peolpe/catalogs just say "Excellent flavour" ..... means nothing.  :(
What have you found that has a bit of tang?
Im new to growing toms, but Ive been eating them for quite a while, and now just dont see the point of supermarket muck. Just like eating a raw potato (I imagine  ;) )

I've just bought some pink tomato seeds from real seeds that are supposed to have a nice flavour (but mostly I want them because they're PINK !) but I'm trying about 6 different kinds in total next year to try and find the ones I like best.
