I'm growing peas similar to dds method this year but with just 1 stake either end and string around with bent bamboo supports over to hold the netting off

Upright battens with horizontal strings --- peas don't climb like runners  ;)

Another Pea question...how big do they need to be before they don't really need protection from pigeons?

Mine need to be harvested before they're safe from pigeons.

However, they've then got a much larger predator, with an even larger appetite for peas!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I meant the fledgling plants rather than the pods themselves. I think our biggest pest is going to be our 2 1/2 year old who's a right little picker!

My plants are not safe at any stage from our pigeons. They used to be after they got 3" on so high, but no longer. They'll eat them, or something off them at all stages now.
