Hi all. I've recently been given an old Flymo Maxi Trim 430 petrol strimmer. In the main it works well, but it has an intermittent problem. Sometimes, although the engine is revving well, the strimmer head just drifts round gently, and no amount of blipping and revving helps. Then, after 3 or 4 stops and restarts it decides to work.
I'm guessing the clutch is sticking; has anyone ever had one of these apart?

it could also be the gears in the strimmer head that have worn (or the bearings gone and the cogs got out of alignment) - I should know I stripped one down and the bearing was non-existent apart from the cases.
it could also be the clutch slipping / sticking - I haven't got round to looking at that end yet.

hi if clutch slipping they can be a beggar to do some models have recoil fastened to clutch side of engine when parted the recoil spring can detach and fly off (cover with  acloth) longest job then rewinding spring ,if clutch shoes behind recoil take care as pawls have to come off first ,use marker pen to dot side facing out they should go back in right position ,then undo bolts on clutch shoes note where tension springs fit  Good luck finding parts machine and parts probably obselete they usually are on day of manufacture   jezza
