Silly question but what is apple jelly as in http://www.allotment-garden.org/recipe/131/apple-jelly-recipe/ in the recipie section.  Do you spread it on toast like jam or is it for adding to other dishes, or cakes.  Does it look and taste like apple sauce?

I make apple jelly with just peel and cores , use the good apple bit in pies, crumbles etc.

Yes you can spread it on toast.  I use it to glaze tarts that call for an apricot glaze and it works well . OH likes it with roast pork .

My apple jelly is clear, a pale golden colour.  A bit overpowering just spread on bread, but I'd imagine very nice with porridge

In my opinion for what it  is worth, if you make it good and tart, crabble jelly beats cranberry jelly into a cocked hat with the, er, late December festive, turkey!
