200 g is around 50, so I suppose a kilo is about 250 sets

It's very variable.

I've just weighed some of my "Red Emperor" 18 made 100g so there's only 180 of these.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

well i bought a net from wilkos and i think that was half a kilo and that had around 130 sets, so id say 250 sets per kilo (same as sunshineband)!

May I ask how much you pay for onion sets?  I bought some seeds but am wondering if I should have bought sets for ease as a beginner?

Thanks, so to add another daft question to the thread, how many onions do you get from a set?

I've nearly bought my sets from wilkos, but was informed that an independant down the road, Gosforth koi carp place at Gosforth Park was doing loose sets for £1.98 a kilo.

I think that makes them cheaper than Wilkos. Doesn't it?

Their seed potatoes are sold loose too, but I can't remember how much it is a kilo for them.  :(

just the one, a set is an onion 'frozen in time', and planting them re-awakens them into growing.

Unless it's a shallot set, then you get about 4-6 new shallots growing out from underneath the set you planted.
