I'll buy the cheapest seed I can but this year.I feel i've been guilty in the last few years of falling for the enticing glossy catalogues. They have a good range but one of the big seed companies i've bought from for years is a quid a pack more expensive then most/some companies.I've convinced myself over the years that the choice was worth it but when I think back to when my father gardened he'd just go to the local agricultural merchants and buy what ever pack was there of what type of veg he wanted. No thought to what variety it was .The produce was always good and plentiful.

Lesson learnt at last(Until the catalogue whispers to me seductivly again.I can hear it on the shelf now.Shut up catalogue)

I believe dig4victory was questioning simplyseeds having veg seeds. I think the link perhaps should have been to simplyseed as I posted here:

Simply seeds on the internet are good as they do cheaper varieties and have a good choice. They come in natty green zip lock bags too!

It might be simplyseed:

Are b&q or similar seeds alright? We are first time veg growers this year now we have room. The main brand seed company websites are going to cost quite a lot of money to get in what we have planned out for our plots.

Hi,

Yes ive used B&Q seeds before - but dont keep for more than one year.

My wife went to wilco today and got us everything on the list bar garlic and chilli for under a tenner :)
We were looking at nearly forty quid from suttons seed catalogue online......

We've been delighted with the service from Premier Seeds (Ebay), and it was AVG's posters here who found them for us!

13 pkts of seed at a total of just over £13 incl postage is a billy bargain - and there aren't too many seeds to waste/leave too long!

All seed sold has to pass a germination % test .. if that makes sense

The majority of own brand seeds are produced & packaged by the "big boys" Mr Fothergills , Suttons etc etc.
I went for a job once at Mr Fothergills and they produce seed for quite a few major retailers, I pretty sure Johnsons is owned by Mr F'.

The biggest thing is shops own brands are usually limited in choice of varieties and not always the most up to date F1's.

Depends what you want really  :) me I like cheaper older tried and tested varieties so I fulfil 95% of my seed buying from Wilko's etc.
