hi

I am looking to get some new additions so our little flock, I am going to pen an area off in our run with a little house so they can see each other all the time, my question is how long do you think it would take before I can put them in with the rest

thanks :)
pauline

I think it's about a week Pauline, never done it myself. But you should still expect a dust up as they will want to get a pecking order sorted

Once I knew mine new additions were healthy I put them in with the others after dark, after a bit of muttering they were fine and the following morning were all pecking about as if they had been there forever.

I have only had 1 occasion where this was not the case but I got rid of that hen anyway as she was a nuisance and not friendly to anyone. :?

I think as long as they can see each other whilst their separated-and placed together at night after a bout a week should be fine. Sometimes breed and age can be a factor. My new birds always make friends easily there again Favs, orps and cochins are all big softies!

The more space they have the quicker they will settle down.  I'm very short of space so it took about 3 weeks for a 1:1 introduction to settle down. But I believe 1:1 is the most difficult !
