Clematis roots need shading from the sun and they can get die-back.

Someone on here mentioned a copper mesh rather then a tape. Had no experience of either but see what others think.

General Gardening / Night Shift!
« Last post by omits on Today at 14:25 »
Anyone know what time slugs and snails start their night shift? I go along about 7am and many of them have left work early. Thinking of going along when their shift starts. loosing too much veg atm!
I've ordered some copper mesh so hope it works.

Grow Your Own / Slugs and copper tape

Hi all
As we are under attack from the slugs at present I am looking at options beyond pellets. I have used nematodes in the past but they are said to not work well on clay.
Has anyone had success with copper tape? RHS seems to damn with faint praise but as they are being sold surely they should work??
Appreciate your thoughts HH

Spent a good hour trying to get me petrol tiller going today, stripped it down, cleaned etc and it just don't wanna play.
It's like a right of passage  Don't forget to pass it on to the next person so they too can experience the joy of pulling the cord for longer than they need to use it.

Both my owd strimmer and tiller are being donated to a garden project, a patient of mine works there so I contacted her to see if they wanted them.

Already tried that MoS without success- there's something wrong with the texture of them, almost like a conference pear it just doesn't mash (variety is Nectar). I should really go and buy another bag for mash as these are 250-300g each so keeping them for jackets would be better.  I could also slice and shingle them on top of the fish but it just wouldn't be the same as a proper fish pie.

Tuna pasta bake tonight as I have a surplus of moo juice to use up as I didn't get round to making the apple crumble and custard either.

Yesterday was a bit grey, but stayed dry until the evening.  Today is also a bit grey and we have already had some rain.

MetO keep saying it is getting warmer, but no sign of Summer yet!!!

No it doesn’t feel like it does it.  After the wet dreary autumn and winter, we really could do with it as well  ::)

I think that is the nub of it.  You may have a right to keep chickens, but going at it bull headed and ignoring the niceties are going to get you nowhere.

Where I am they would say move to one of the sites that allow them, then comply with all our provisions of how your set-up will be and if not we can wave nuisance or other problems at you till you quit or we end your tenancy. I am sure they would happily shop me to DEFRA as well if they thought I was flouting their rules on registration or bird flu prevention.

I don’t think Snailsbane site is being difficult at all.  Ask permission and you will likely get it.  John’s piece offers a lot of useful advice about getting people including plot neighbours on side.  That is going to be needed, because complaints of smell, rats, noise or other nuisance will likely mean you are told you can no longer keep chickens there.

Sometimes getting what you want is a bit more subtle than waving a law in people’s faces and demanding your rights  :)
