Bella goose dog
« on: May 02, 2014, 09:59 »
Our little cross bred pooch has always been obsessed with any baby squeaky animal, and our latest residents are no exception. We have had two of the goslings five days and three for three days, and they were very anti dog at first. Now, with Bella in constant attendance (supervised of course) they are now used to her and no longer squeak, just chatter with her, and will even gravitate towards her. All she wants to do is sniff bums! But there have to be lots of snooze breaks, they are only little after all.

What a sweet picture. Looks like Bella is self-appointed goose guardian  :D I suspect with bum sniffing that she's taking a dog's method of counting.

That's such a lovely pic! And a sweet temperament. My friend's dog would have a mouth of feathers and a guilty expression by now.

If I remember right, by about 3-5 days they will have "imprinted" the nearest thing as their mother, be it human or animal. How lovely!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

They are still a little confused....is it Bella or Dave who is mum?  They have settled really well from the scared ltlle creatures they were when the arrived. They are adorable, but I hope they lose their cuteness soon or this vegetarian will have anxiety! I really need them off the lawn where I can watch them for hours, grazing, batheing, dashing off to find Bella or Dave, flopping down for instant sleeps. I need them out of sight as soon as they are big enough to be contained by a fence.

I think Dave is thinking of going veggie.......

A primary school the older girls went to had ducklings, unfortunately only one survived and it imprinted with the headteacher, a nun who's order still wore long black gowns.  They made quite a sight walking down the corridor

The locals call OH 'Papa Dave' and Bella is 'Mama Bella'. They sit out on the lane with the goslings where the passing goats and sheep keep the grass down. They are rather large now but our neighbour still likes to give them cuddles.

They're mucky little blighters though and now banished from the garden!
