greenhouse tomatoes
« on: June 26, 2009, 19:33 »
Hi all,I would like to get some views on whether or not removing lots of leaves from tomato plants grown in the greenhouse is beneficial or not. There seems to be a lot of differing opinions to be found on various web sites. Some say to remove almost all of the leaves, and others just to remove any yellowing decaying leaves, any advice greatly appreciated.....cheers.

I always remove yellow leaves, and remove the leaves around the fruit once it has set..just to allow the sunlight to ripen the fruit.

Some sites also recommend removing the base leaves below the trusses to allow more air flow, sunlight and energy to the fruit instead of the leaves.  Im testing that this year on some of my plants
"I think the carrot infinitely more fascinating than the geranium. The carrot has mystery. Flowers are essentially tarts. Prostitutes for the bees. There is, you'll agree, a certain je ne sais quoi oh so very special about a firm young carrot" Withnail and I

Just take the yellowing leaves off. There`s no need to take the leaves off above the trusses as tomatoes need warmth to ripen, not light.

Ive also grown far too many toms this year for my GH.. so quite a lot have gone outside. But Ive still got a lot in there
Because my plants left in the GH will be crowded Im hoping that this will help with airflow and any possible pest ID before its too late
