Soup maker
« on: October 22, 2013, 19:35 »
I have been given an unwanted new cuisinart soup maker. Impressive looking bit of kit but I can't see what I could gain from using it. It's so simple to make in a saucepan and finish with a stick blender that I can't see the point in this quite expensive bit of kit. Before I put it on eBay can anyone convince me otherwise ? Many thanks. S

I take it that THIS is the one you have?

If so, I can't see any real benefit to it other than padding the till of retail shops. It says you can also do smoothies and whipped things, but I'm sure you already have a blender/whatever for that.

That's exactly the one Trillium. Glad in a way that you agree.

Wow, that looks posh!  ::) I'm afraid I can't be much help, as mine (although not quite so posh) is still (several months later) in the box!

After I've 'constructed' the soup and zizzed it, I do what my old Mam used to do for a couple of hours without the aid of a zizzer, I push it through a sieve.  Comes out sooo much more silky and no celery bits in between the teeth!

Cheers.   Tony.

I too use the pan and stick blender method for soup or I sometimes use my jug blender which is more robust than my stick blender for large batch pans of soup.

If you're quite happy using your stick blender for soup and you're not ever going to use this piece of kit for other blending or ice crushing, then I'd eBay it. Great timing too with December approaching and people looking for gifts. ;)

Mrs Growster would agree with all this, Steve, you'll get a good deal on Growbay about now!

There's going to be a mammoth soup fest going on here this morning - the first this season..;0)

(That's if I haven't mucked up the blender making pesto...)!

Well I'm glad to say the boss has put it on eBay as she agrees with me and she deals with that sort of thing. To be fair it has got some very strong looking blades so would make a really good blender or ice crusher as it is a substantial piece of equipment. Hopefully someone will make good use of it.
