Radio etiquette
« on: June 01, 2019, 10:00 »
So here is a thorny question - anybody have any views on  radio etiquette ? We have a problem with a fellow allotment holder and her radio

I have nothing against music or radios,  I occasionally have the radio on in the shed or if the site is empty outside with me but only loud enough to hear within a few feet.

However,  not so with a fellow plot holder whom puts the radio on so loud you can hear it across the site. Sometimes she has the radio on at one end of her plot and is working at the other - 120+ feet away.  To make it worse, it isn't  easy listening music  - we get a mixture of rap, hip hop and teen scene.  Soon as the music comes on many of the neighbours pack up and leave.

Anybody else experienced anything similar ?

Can you not just ask her to turn it down a bit?

That's pretty rude! Personally I wear headphones whilst I listen to music or podcasts, I'm not sure my plot neighbours are ready for Mayo and Kermode's Film Review...
I'd try and politely ask if they'd turn it down out of consideration of other's first, if that fails talk to your site rep or committee.

She is the type that if you ask her to turn it down she will complain to the local council that she is being picked on ....... but has no problem complaining about everything and everybody else.

I just wondered if anyone else has experienced anything like that as most people like the allotments as it is normally a place where people go for the peace and a bit of a chat with the other plot holders.

Ask the council rep to call in regularly to catch the full volume, failing that put a notice up on the entrance asking people to consider others

Can you ask the allotment officer, if it's a council site?

As a site rep I asked someone to turn the level down, they said they didn't realise how loud it was, and did so.

Perhaps she just gets absorbed into what she is doing and forgets how loud and irksome it can be for others.
If you don't want to confront her, perhaps you could leave a cheap pair of earplugs thingys  hanging on her shed door  :D  Seriously, I do agree that somebody in charge could perhaps have a quite word with her.  That's if she can still hear of course.  good luck, Mrs Bouquet

I would leave the confrontation to committee/council keeping your name out of it. That dway would not interfere with future harmonious (pun intended) relations.

Sneak- clump with dibber and bury  radio or owner .

Radio might be less hassle and quicker to bury ! ;)

Good idea, it would take the Police ages to go through the extensive list of suspects   :D

Apparently it has been sorted - one of the elder statesmen of the site addressed the problem as only they can with using a mixture of humour, wagging fingers, bad language and speaking very loudly.  :D

And I missed it  :(
