How to get rid of the smell

I've just bought a lovely pair of branded shoes on-line, and although they are new in the box, complete with tags and tissues - they've been stored where someone smokes Phew! Horrible horrible
Has anyone a good remedy for losing the smell from the leather..... at the moment they're sitting in the shed

I can't think of anything which actually removes the smell only that masks it for a while. Get rid of anything like the tissue paper and box and get them aired as much as possible. Are they polishable , that may hide the smell or at least alter it.

I know bicarbonate of soda can be used to get rid of smells in fridges, so could you possible slip a small container of it inside the shoes and leave them sealed inside a plastic bag for a while? Probably a daft idea, but it's all I can think of at the moment

Can you pop some vanilla essence into two small pots, and leave them inside each shoe overnight Mum?
That stuff knocks out all sorts of pongs, and works wonders!
(A chum in the car trade told me that smoker's cars were automatically 'rounded down' because of the stench)!

Just hold your nose, put them on and go for a walk. The fresh air will soon shift the stink

My Husband bought some shoes on-line that were like that, You cannot get rid of that smell - send them straight back. Sometimes handbags can be the same. Again, I returned it. Apparently it is because of three possible things, The leather is not cured properly, often fish glue is used, and yes, smoke - horrid, send them back. Sorry, >:

According to one of those helpful lifestyle hacks snippets in the paper it seems that a good way to remove smells of all types and pungency from shoes is to spray in some of that dry shampoo stuff and leave in overnight before shaking out any dry residue.
The sensible thing to do, however is send 'em back!

They had a spray inside with Febreze, a polish up and then worn for 2 day's worth of walks and most of the smell is gone - though, for now, I must still remember to put them under the stairs, rather than leave them on the doormat
They are Hotter shoes and were half the normal price, so are worth the deodourising IMO
