I hope you're not expecting the taste of Jersey Royals, their taste is mostly due to the unique soil in Jersey and the tons of Vraic, (seaweed) dug into it over the years.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but if you do a forum seach on International Kidney, you'll find a lot of people have been disappointed.

I'd pay £1.25 at our local nursery for about 20 tubers, roughly a kilo.

Oh dear  :( no, I didn't know that DD...

I spose I'll have to give them a go now they're ordered and paid for, but I hope I haven't wasted my money.

If I was buying seed potatoes to plant mid March- April I would wait until February to get them or ask for them to be sent in February. Give them 6 weeks to chit and they will be just right for you to plant.

At the moment we are not sending out any mail order stuff as the weather was minus 5 here today and it would just waste the potatoes.

Thanks for all of your kind words anyway folks and lets hope the weather picks up soon :)

I'm waiting till 29th Jan for potato day at Ryton Organic not far from me. I have been pouring over lists and still can't decide varities and will buy more than I need as usual. Lost 70% stored this year to the frosts, but that makes me more determined to to grow some good ones this year. Odd that in amongst the frost damaged  ones were some valor still hard and sprouting ( must the SAS of poato world!!)

Slightly OT but have to say, Iain, I've just looked at your website and it's fabulous - really, really  helpful.  I'll be visiting properly with plan in hand, later!  :D

My International Kidney seed potatoes arrived at the weekend. I also bought some seaweed fertiliser products form here:

Just to see if I can make them work DD...

The farmers of Jersey have at least 800 years head start on you.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

A garden centre not too far away has it's seed spuds in.  50 + varieties and you can buy a single spud to a 'cwt'.  (That's a hundredweight or 1/8th of a ton ) !   If I remember correctly !      Cheers,   Tony
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Not too far away from where?

The post's a bit redundant without that info.

The hardware shop in Chipping Norton (supplies a lot of us allotmenteers in the neighbourhood!) got their seed pots and onion sets in last tuesday, as did the independent garden centre nearby.  They were flying out the sack when I called in ....

I also picked up 3kg of Maris Peer from Wilkos - very mixed sizes but they have done me well in the past, together with a couple of nets of onions which did very well last year.

They were showing sprouts today so I put mine to chit this lunchtime (I work from home) in a cool frost free light room   .... (don't tell OH that they are in the house ... he will not approve!) to make short strong stubby chits.

I am soooooooo hoping that we dont get any more snow!
