I recently won a great item on E-Bay.... Middleton's all the year round Gardening Guide. It's fantastic!! Printed in the war years.....with Digging for Victory foremost in mind, a week by week guide on how to grow your fruit and veggies....a lot of chemicals used..most of which I've never heard of. An absolute humdinger of a read :)

At the bottom of the open pages he writes little words of wisdom...ie:
"There's nothing to be gained by rushing out with a spade and turning everything upside down in a few hours ".
and..
"A seed is one of the wonders of the world"......:)

I'm sure they must be. The ad's are absolutely fab!! "RITO multiplies all allotment and garden crops".  :)
The paper it's printed on is 3 different types!! Brilliant! :)

Cool, I love eBay I'm off to look for a copy.

Personally I love the copies of Adam the Gardener I have bought for about £5. They were a series of cartoon strips and articles published in the Sunday Express in the 50s - 70s. They are excellent and almost each one is different and topical to date, some of the techniques are a bit non-pc nowadays however. Sodium Chlorate rules OK!
