To deter cats
Place a cat litter tray where they are a problem. They will use it. Then each day move the tray bit by bit to a place which is less of a problem. The cat will follow the tray.If wet place it in a big carboard box. Or place the cat food on its dish on the beds. A cat willnot go where it feeds. You are training the cat.It will respond, but it takes a little time and effort.

... that cats are the most devious beings on earth ... whatever you do they will see it as a challenge to get round it.

Cats really dislike two things ... water and pain.  If you can't sit there and squirt em with water whenever they get on the patch, put something over it that will give them jip if they try to remove it ... rose prunings worked brilliantly for me they wouldn't shuffle them off because of the thorns ... and you get one or two new roses as compensation!

I use the skins of grapefruit and orange halves... Works well but they need to be replaced reguarly...

Have heard of others using ground pepper on the soil to good effect

I've cut back a pyracantha and have laid the branches accross the ground, works well but needs to be anchored if its very windy.
