Odd duckling behaviour
« on: July 15, 2013, 20:49 »
Hi we have a little Mallard duckling that got left behind by mum and he's now 5 days old – he's been doing well but he's just started a  a walking backwards thing while sweeping his beak side to side – my partner has looked on the web but can I ask you guys... is it normal – should we be worried  - anything we should do?   -  we've gotten very fond of him already of course.

My hens do that on the grass but going forwards.  They do it to disturb insects and then gobble them up.

Hopefully someone with knowledge of ducklings will advise you soon.   :)

I have seen my ducks take a few steps backwards whilst foraging in the grass but mainly they go forwards. Kate might be able to advise.
