T&M plug begonias
« on: February 16, 2012, 10:28 »
Can anyone tell me if plug plants bought from T & M last year will altermatically go on to produce corms ? Bought some trailing begonias last year, let the die off and kept them still planted in a frost free potting shed for the winter, will I see anything from them this year or do I buy more plugs again this year ? hope some can help

If the shed really was frost free you should have viable tubers.

I suggest you clean all the old compost off the tubers and see what you have. If they are still firm you should be able to grow them again.
You may have to bring them into some warmth to start them into growth again  :)

that sounds promising  :) Will have a little look at the weekend, see if any tubers have developed, they should not have rotted as baskets were left to dry out once foliage had died back, and shed has small heater to keep frost away, and me warm  :D thanks for your reply

I bought some plug begonias from Jersey Direct two years ago and never got them out of the ground. We had a harsh winter and very low temps and, believe it or not, quite a lot survived and flowered last year. Did the same with last year's plugs and such a mild winter that I hope to have lots more this year!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
