hi all. i've heard that epsom salts are good for tomatoes,
     is this right, and how much and how often. I'd apprieciate
      any advice. thanks.

An important ingredient, but not a 'magic' one which will double your crop (if only!)
Most tomato feeds contain magnesium, which should be enough if applied at the recommended dose.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
