It is way too late to be planting now, although they are called Autumn King this means that you harvest them in the Autumn not plant them. Even if they do germinate there is not enough time for them to grow big enough.

It could also be said to be too early   You can sow Autumn King in early autumn for lifting carrots in early spring, but more usually kept in a greenhouse and protected.  You could try having a cloche over the sowings and hope they overwinter okay - a lot might depend on the kind of winter we get this year.  Don't forget to protect the seedlings from slugs and snails which can still be active except when it is freezing.

There was quite a lot of experimentation (and enticement!) about them several years ago. Of the people who tried, mostly in greenhouse as I recall, only one had good success and they grew them all in perforated trays (like supermarket home delivery ones)

I've read [recently] of one person who swears by them, but most seem to struggle [I mean sowing them as an over winter crop]

Ice seems to have had some success:

but it was this thread that I remembered from winter of 2008/9

... if you have a spare half hour to read it!

Discussion about HARVEST starts on page 14 :D here:

In fairness everyone sowed them very late that year (October), which might have been the cause of poor results, but looks like only ?? Ice got good resutls

I have sown my Nantes Frubund  seeds in a big plastic container 5ft by 5ft and put two double glazing windows on top, to see if they will grow the weather is still quite warm and sunny so u never know
