Carrot fly
« on: September 13, 2013, 20:08 »
Hi all,

I know the carrot fly remains active in September but was wondering when I can safely remove my physical barried from around my carrots?

Thanks

Matt

I've removed mine but that's because we have gale force winds forecast for Sunday/Monday and I don't want it to disappear into someone else's garden!

Ive removed mine, but I intend to crop from now untill we have eaten all of them.
This link contains some excellent guidance.  Have a look at it.

I have also removed mine, that's because we had an extremely good year for carrots here and they first time ever in a decade outgrew my frame. So, there is no point to it.

Otherwise there are 4 generations of carrot fly a season, depending on the weather at your end, you still can get some. Unless other malarkey like us, I'd wait for colder weather, personally.

Excellent link thank you just what I was looking for.

The frame is not really an issue its only a make shift thing I made with 4 fence posts staked in the ground to make a rectangle with 3 foot high fleece wrapped and stapled to it.

Its done the job well but weeding and general checking of the crop is difficult when you have to lean across x
