Broody Hens
« on: June 14, 2010, 22:31 »
Once our little Olive has (hopefully) hatched the clutch she has been sat on, will she go back to laying normally? I just wondered if there was anything we should do with her to encourage this and if there was any sort of time period for her to adjust. None of the fertilised eggs have come from her as we don't have a cockerel. Olive is a 2 year old hybrid who used to lay most days until she decided to become a surrogate

She will just start to lay again when she is ready Tazzy, I think Joyfull said it can take up to 6 weeks for her to start laying again, and my little silkies do seem to take that long to get back to normal!!

Thanks Grannie - this bit's all new territory for me. Only 8/9 days to go until breakout day - can't wait - first time chicken dad  :)

I tried putting some eggs under my silkies once, but they kept leaving the eggs, so I've only ever used the incubator,  its very exciting though!  :) :)

You can borrow one of my broody hens Annie if you want to try hatching this way  ;)
Staffies are softer than you think.
