20 panes of glass, need some ideas!
« on: September 20, 2007, 21:39 »
Helloooo.

Got about 20 panes of glass from freecycle. They are approx 3 foot by 18 inches (havent actually measured them yet)

Any ideas as to what I could make with them up the lottie?

Cold frames I suppose, but what about a triangular thing? I dunno....  :?:  :?:

ah yep, I remember those things.

What about something like this I knocked up in AutoCad2006? Cover the ends with poly. Not sure what I could grow in it though?

One can immediately see why Autocad is the premier package of its kind worldwide!

Miss out the middle seam since this will be too weak. One cloche = 2 panes of glass, probably with 3ft length on the horizontal.  Still plenty high enough for seedlings, early salads, etc.

You have enough glass for a 30ft row.

Panes of Glass
Another Simple idea is to lay them flat but raised above the garden bed - this would be great for seedlings in the beggining of spring

You could make this by actually attaching the wood to the glass panes or if you wanted to keep them more temporary you could just sit them ontop of wood - I would make them attach to the would because they would be more stable and they are still going to be easily moved around. - I am in the process of trying to find glass panes to do this very thing - Although I did like the Triange idea someone else suggested

Hope this helps

I think the single V cloche job is the way forward!

I already have many boxes with lids. See pic. the lids are poly not glass though.

Thanks for the suggestions  :D  :D

There's an idea for your panes of glass, homemade solar energy!!!

Why don't you simply increase the spacing between your lidded boxes and cover the gap with a sheet of glass??

How about one long V shaped cloche, sitting on slabs, open at both ends and grow grape inside.
