This could be a design and construction question. I have already asked for advice on land drains, ditchs etc in that forum. Received great ideas on drains, pipes etc.

Specific to poly tunnels. When it rains and the water bounces down the sheeting  does it cause excessive flooding bogginess to the ground either side of the tunnel? If this is the case what mechanisms do tunnel owners use to ensure the water flows away/ is captured to prevent flooding problems occurring.

I am making my own only small tunnel. Hoops are up with extra supports, raised beds nearly in, trenchs dug either side to bury sheeting for stretching over etc. But the ground in Autumn winter is always boggy in the plot and getting rid of water in the ground in that spot will be a priority.

Tips please.

We've never had a problem with our tunnel, but then we don't have clay soil

I echo GrannieAnnie's reply completely and would add that if drainage is a problem, you could perhaps install a soakaway in the form of some pea shingle around the perimeter of the polytunnel on top of the buried sheeting. Or you might be able to rig up a harvesting system for rainwater either by purchasing something like this GUTTERING or by making your own.

I think pea shingle is the most obvious solution but it doesn't soakaway that quickly. I have an idea that some additional drainage elsewhere near the p tunnel site will help move it away and I shall use old drain pipe with holes in strategically placed.

Snorkel flippers and thigh high welly boots come November if not.

Oh well, if you'd already had all the ideas yourself, at least if we pushed you in the right direction..... ;)
