« on: July 28, 2012, 23:20 »
Hi all ,not been a good season for me here in the north east I think the weather has ruined my gardening year, the main crop pots look ok but most things have if not failed then I've only got 50% off beetroots onions are no where near where they were last year I've been hammered with slugs snails an even rabbits have had a go which is driving my lurcher mad as she can smell them but can't find em , we even got a load of summer bulbs in pots which were coming on lovely then went on the plot one day an they were all eaten down to about an inch, i don't garden over the winter as i like to go rabbiting guess where il be starting this back end ,so in going to green manuer an leave it at that ,never mind there's always next year

Sadly a lot of us are in the same boat, this has been a very challenging year for growing anything at all.  Still a few things you can start off now and fingers crossed for an Indian summer.  Seems a shame to not try anything at all over winter. :(
Cheese makes everything better.

Its not too late for a few quick maturing crops.  I sowed beetroot, turnip, fennel, mustard greens and spring onions the other day.  You could also sow any of the salad leaves and overwintering onion seeds could go in soon.

If you haven't been growing brassica plants, you can still buy them as baby plants to put in. Overwintering onion and shallot sets, plus garlic bulbs will be in the shops next month as well  :)
