What's the best way to deal with beech leaves?- my garden is surrounded by beech hedges and the leaves are starting to drop.  I have noticed in previous years that they will just form a slimy layer in the compost heap - does anyone know if I can make leaf mould from them? - or should I just hope for a strong wind in the right direction so they are all blown away!

Just collect them in a black placcie bag, should be damp..if not water them. Seal up bag, puncture a few holes in with the garden fork and leave for a year. Has worked in the past for me.

Put them in Black plastic bin liners, and tie them up. Poke some holes in the bags and store them somewhere out of the way (Behind the shed?) for a year or two. They'll make lovely leaf mould which is a cracking good soil improver.
