Yellow Maris Piper Plants
« on: July 28, 2009, 22:04 »
My crop of Maris Pipers have all started to turn yellow and start to die back.  Most flowered weeks ago, so does this mean they are ready for lifting?

The leaves don;t seem particularly "spotty" or showing signs of blight, they just look tired.

I don't want to lift too early as I intend to use these for storage, and was under the impression that they should be ready about September.  They were planted the week before Easter (17 weeks ago).

Does sound like natural dieback and it's time to have a furtle  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I have had a rummage around and the tubers are a nice size and very clean (no scab or spots at all), however most plants have an ants nest under them, so I don't like dipping my hands too deep.
