Hydraulic log splitter
« on: May 14, 2011, 15:34 »
Has anyone any experience of THIS Wolf manual hydraulic log splitter or similar? We would prefer not to go down the electric route and petrol ones are more powerful than we need and are too dear.

Currently we buy about 3 tonnes of wood per year in 3 metres lengths and will be increasing this quantity, so its a fair bit to chop by hand and OH's back isn't getting any younger!  :D

Thoughts welcome.

They are a back saver! Had one for just over a year now, splitting logs for the wood burner is a doddle, now i almost look forward to doing it  :)

I had never seen one of them before, I am a bit tempted.   However I do quite enjoy spending the odd hour out in the Garden with the Splitting Maul, It's good exercise as well.

I can't really see how one of them would help with a dodgy back though, if you can lift the log you want to split in the first place, I'm sure you can swing a 6lb axe.

Thanks Steve for your input, it takes a little more than the odd hour chopping logs with a 6lb axe to keep our woodburner going during the winter months! :D

Thanks Compo for your affirmation of it being a useful product! :D

A small pile of logs... :D
