Title: Non-layer?
Post by: Bruced on July 08, 2009, 09:38
Morning all, a perhaps dumb question from a relative newbie. We got our three girls as POL pullets and have had them for around 10 weeks. Two are laying merrily and have been doing so for around 6 weeks (although Maud is exhibiting broody tendencies!) but teh ginger ranger has never laid. Her comb has reddened up (albeit it is relatively small compared to the sussex and the speckeldy) and her wattles have grown but no sign of an egg! They are currently in the coop / run in the mornings and free ranging in the pm. Generally the two layers lay in the morning. They have access to pellets, water and grit all day. Is it just a case of waiting or is there the occasional non-layer? Is 26 weeks+ late for starting to lay? Thanks for all your help!

They can often be older before they lay (anything up to 35 weeks!!) so don't worry. Having said that Grannie Ann has got a hen that has never laid.
