Title: Kale help ????
Post by: Beetroot queen on April 28, 2009, 12:13
My son has taken my veg bible (he wants to read up) actually his teacher is happy for him to read it as a school book.

But my kale was desperately too big in the tiny pots, so I have just been up and stuck it in the newest bed. Did I do right ????

It had been outside for a few weeks in the pots but it either had to go in the ground or loose it, as it needed more.

Also I read on the web it said a foot apart but nearly two foot between rows. I have given them a foot between but didnt have enough space to give two foot between rows so they got about a foot and a half.

how big does it grow will space be okay and was it okay to go in the ground, do I need to protect it

And WILLIAM bring back my book

Probably a bit close, bit I reckon you'd get away with it.

Doesn't need protection, it's about the hardiest brassica you can get!

Can't help with William.

I might have to get him a copy, lol, brill well its all trial and error, wont learn unless we make a few boo boos along the way.

William is reading the book because the kids have a bed and we have the others and the race is on apparently to grow something great, the kids have called their team the garden ninjas and me and hubby have been named the garden gnomes  ??? ::)

caterpillars and pidgeons less likely to be a problem than with most greens but if nothing else around they will go for it. Agree with DD spacing was a bit close I woudl have used 18 inch between plants by 2 foot between rows
